ALT400 Smoke Leak Tester is designed for detecting the leakage of pipe systems, air intake system and cooling tank, which conforms to SAE standards. It’s a professional tool that can help you find leakage in any pipe system quickly.
- Rainco ALT400 (TURBO) – User Manual.pdf
- Designed for detecting the leak of pipe systems in cars, motorcycles, such as fuel pipe, air intake system and cooling tank.
- It can change special oil (baby oil or mineral oil) into smoke, and blow smoke into a sealed pipe system. You can find out the leak point in the pipe via the smoke and fix it where the leak exists.
- It can produce smoke fast with large volume, which can effectively help technicians improve working efficiency.
What is EVAP vs TURBO?
The Rainco ALT400 (EVAP) – EVAP system (Evaporation Emission Control System) usually works in low pressure from -3.5Kpa to 3.5Kpa (-0.5psi~0.5psi), and never over the 30Kpa (4.35psi). In the EVAP system very small leaks even 0.01 inch will cause the Engine Check Light to go on. You must repair the leaks then the engine works well.
The other systems like in the Rainco ALT400 (TURBO) work in the higher pressure from 3~20psi, so we called them “TURBO” in total. The leak test that happened to these systems needs the variable pressure to get accurate results.

How To Use:
- Open the engine cover, and hang the main unit under the cover.
- Disconnect the pipe which needs to be connected with the detector. If the pipe’s two sides need to be disconnected, please make sure the other side needs to be blocked with a rubber stopple.
- Make sure this side with proper taper stopple/pipe, and connect it with a smoke output tube.
- Connect the main unit with DC12V battery: Red with positive, Black with negative.
- Turn on the power switch, the main unit starts to work.
- In 2 minutes, the pipe will be filled with smoke. Check and find the leak points. Please use a light or headlamp if necessary.
- After finding out the leak location, then connect pipes or wires well.
